Maybe your monitor settings need calibrating or something, but I really cannot even phathom a guess as to what this is supposed to be. I am really sorry, but I just don't quite understand this one.

I really like this. It's a more interpretive portrait.
Everyone can improve the other photographers images though :) For me, I find the bright band on the left and the upper right a little distracting. I wonder what it would look like if it was burned in a bit?
On my monitor there is just the hint of detail in the face -- or where I think the face is -- it really keeps me searching and focussed on the blurred form.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what this is an image of. .... ??

It's a woman in traditional Muslim clothing.

I've seen this before in a dictionary. It was used to illustrate the expression "pretentious twaddle".

nice

Very mysterious.
I quite like the addition of the noise, although the noise has noise. hmmm, that makes no sense. There's a few larger noise "lumps" that I personally find a little distracting. It's something I find happens when I add noise in PS and then end up trying to touch up so it's an even spray of noise.
Interesting image, I quite like it but still think it needs some work although I must admit I'm not quite sure what, which probably doesn't help at all.

Zorilla, that seems a bit harsh.
realspear said 891 days ago:
The "noise" is scanned film grain.
My monitor is just fine.

Ok...I see it now. My kids told me they thought it was a person with really long hair either being blown, or swinging their head around. But now that you mentioned traditional Muslim clothing, I guess that it's a Burkha, I think I can see that.
Were any of her facial features visible? I only ask because I have a brand new monitor that I got just one week ago. I calibrated it, but someone here commented that they can make out facial features which I cannot and now I am questioning my monitor.

My mistake. :-)

This is really interesting... It leaves a lot to the imagination. I find myself trying to look for some kind of face in the darkness.
I like the ambiguity, but I'm not sure that most people will really respond to it as a portrait. This seems more appropriate for a "ghost" type of theme.
I'm interested to see what the 12 other comments say. :)

Zorilla, what's with the insult? Seriously... take that somewhere else.

portrait or not...this one has an incredible impact for me

What is this? Definetly not clear enough for me to see what is going on here. I wish I could see it better! It's intriguing for sure!
Flatline said 888 days ago:
It's too abstract in my mind - I can't see a person, so it's not really a portrait. I also can't infer any story or event, so there is no inherent drama - it does not seem part of a story. It is somewhat ghostly, but only in a visual sense. I am neither spooked, or mystified, nor enchanted.

Zorilla, please leave constructive comments.

This is a great photo. I'm not sure how well it fits the portrait part of the theme since you can't see the person's face but it's certainly dramatic. I hope They don't rate it low for quality because of the film grain, grain is good and it really adds to the effect.
GPakiam said 887 days ago:
where's the portrait?
GPakiam said 887 days ago:
ah, ok. this is a pic that really begs for a caption...it's too abstract for me otherwise.
