pretty good shot, but the sky has some highlights down near the horizon and it just doesn't seem bright enough. great shadows and colours

CraigMartin said 181 days ago:

Sure is high contrast, and technically excellent, but it doesn't have much impact on me otherwise. High marks for relevance, technique and quality though.

This was taken at late at night. Custom color balance was calibrated close to the color of his skin, not the train or sky.

Not very relevant for this theme, and the composition is a bit too static. Maybe a closer shot would have given the sitting person more importance?

Jem said 180 days ago:

Not really what i'd consider to be high-contrast, but I love the shot none the less! :)

The hue contrast between blue and green is what I'm assuming is the extreme contrast of this image for relevance. Although there is quite a bit of detail in the subject matter, I find that it is not compelling or does not tell a story combined with the other elements. The centered composition adds to the lack of impact as does the dark space at the bottom of the image. I'm not sure if that was an attempt to balance the upper 2/3s of the image, but I find it distracting.

Is this a late evening shot? There seem to be a number of light sources, making interesting shadows.

DtheShadowman said 180 days ago:

Yes, Stolenlife this was taken in the evening. EXIF says just before 10PM, but I could have sworn it was later.

Thanks everyone,
D
