This is a damn cute submission, 4 schoolboys, 4 completely different expressions. Wonderful capture.

Love the smile. But I think it's too much contrast.

There are so many elements in this photograph to admire. The subject matter is engaging and the fact that each subject has a differing expression adds to the overall feel of the image.
My personal view is that anytime human expression is captured it is best displayed in black and white as it accentuates the subject's expression. It would also have reduced the prominence of the background focusing more on the expressions.
In order to get all of the subjects in focus, you needed to use a smaller aperture, but one a bit larger would have yielded bokeh in the background giving further impact to the subject matter.
The uniforms they are wearing gives the image some continuity, but the fact that their clothing is in varying states of disarray adds to the story of individuality and the carefree nature of childhood. Well chosen for the theme and with a bit of adjustment, it would be really striking.

I didn't say much about this photo when I rated, but I really appreciate the time that pursang put into his comments when he did. This is exactly what makes Weekly Shot a great community when it's working. I don't agree with him about making the image black and white as I feel the colors, especially in the kids' uniforms add to the sense of "Four", but I think he's spot on with his other suggestions. bluevelvette could certainly learn a lot from that well crafted comment. I know after reading it, I considered a few things I hadn't on first look.

I a so glad to read your comments (I didn't expect so much reactions), it's my first picture on the website and your advices are very interesting to me. Thank you so much for point of view who learns me pretty much! Just a question about the 'rules": can we modify the picture with a software or the deal is to keep the picture without any retouching. Have a nice day*

you can do what you like to the photo! although this has to be for the benefit of the photo... if that makes any sense!

The final image is all that matters. How you get there, with the camera, with software, etc. is up to you.
