Yes the cropping is deliberate. Since the theme is eyes I felt that the whole image with both thier faces became something else, as it is thier smiles detract a bit from the eyes, but oh well. ;-)

A happy pair...but the photo doesn't emphasize the eyes as other facial attributes are just as powerful (smiles, complexion).
