Hi, Carl,

This was not posed as a sad photo. This is a friend of mine who agreed to let me do a portrait of her. As we were beginning to take photos, she suddenly lowered her head into her hands and began to sob.
"What's wrong?" I asked. "I think I'm ugly," she replied. I got her to raise her head, but she wouldn't look into the lens. I took this photo and ended the session.

This was shot on 35mm b/w film around 1972.

As a friend of mine used to say many years ago, when I was a young man, "If I had met an attractive woman like this I would have been camping out on her doorstep." I hope her self-image improves. Your photo captures her emotion well. Next time I want to see those deep eyes sparkle.
