Très belle image, d'une poésie rare et d'une réalisation très soignée... bravo !

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

Merci bien mon copain!

George said 417 days ago:

I like this but for me it would be stronger without the butterfly. Then again maybe I'm missing some deeper significance.

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

Thanks George, yea the butterfly, first I didn't have it there, but I put it there to balance the left root. Furthermore, the image is about life, and butterflies are on their peek (very best part) of their life.
Also, butterflies keep on popping up into my images every now and then...

George said 417 days ago:

I see what you mean Chriz. I wonder how it comes across without the butterfly and without the roots being green? My youngest daughter (she's 7) recently received a caterpillar "cage" for her birthday. The caterpillars have spun their cocoons and will soon emergy as butterflies. We're all standing by with baited breath!

It's butterfly boy! (in a figurative sense). I know you must have struggled with the lack of black in the tree branches. This might not surprise you, but I would have selected or masked very last twig in the tree in order to get the background to go black.

My mind can grasp a giant holding a tree, but the butterly breaks that illusion. A normal person holding a bonsei tree works, but is less magical in a way.

What do the little dots (some in the tree, a few off to the right of the butterfly) represent?

Technically, this photo is uneven. If this is ChriZ, I imagine that you know that. You are woking with an original and challenging idea here and I give you full credit for that.

High marks except for image quality, which I'm marking down for the lack of black behind the tree and the inconsistent quality of this image.

A little butterfly says that this is ChriZ. :-)

A lovely take on the theme.

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

I took the shot of the tree in the night with a remote flash, so it actually was perfectly black almost everywhere, I just added that warm fog to create some kind of magic, those dots should represent glow worms or something like that.

Some problems I have is that I should get some more footage to work with, and a better computer to cope with it, photoshop is going nuts.
About the quality, there are some jpg artifacts for which I'm sorry about!

Thanks for commenting King!
Tracy, glad you recognized me! Thanks!

You are a Photoshop freak ok! ^^

Nice jop

King said 417 days ago:

ChriZ...I think my crummy monitor was out of adjustment again. The black behind he tree looks much better now--in fact, the whole shot looks better.

Thanks for explaining what you were getting at with the fog and the glow worms. It's a nifty shot. I agree with George that it might be more effective without the butterfly. Now tiny butterflies fluttering around with the glow worms, or up in the tree branches...that might be good.

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

thought of that too...
but I wanted something to balance out that root on the left...
Well, I'll give it a go later on and post up a link.

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

Flatline said 417 days ago:

Very high marks, well done. I prefer straight photography over photoshop compositions, but in this case it works very well.

dcreighton said 417 days ago:

For me this image really had more impact as a thumbnail because when I look at it larger I see the little bit of color and the butterfly. I guess I just prefer it to be just the hands and the tree in B&W totally. That is of course just my preferance and I think it is above average across the board.

ChriZ said 417 days ago:

Ok guys, I made it a bit more art friendly.
Got rid of the butterfly, adjusted the bw settings and added a weebit of grain.
Thanks for all the crits and comments, the new version will fit better in my portfolio I guess!

Wow, I have no idea how to even begin doing a masterpiece like this!

ChriZ said 416 days ago:

Thanks Mark, it all starts off by asking mom to photograph her hands with some dirt in them ;)

PThree said 416 days ago:

Congratulations. pal. may the force be with you!

King said 416 days ago:

Wow, ChriZ...the version you posted on your website is a little masterpiece. Congratulations!

Do you think it is better? or do you still prefer this one?

ChriZ said 416 days ago:

Guess I'll prefer the masterpiece, master!
But I think this one works well for Weeklyshot...

Thanks for the compliment.
