As much as I love this image I find that it does not completely fit the theme on a relevance level. Her face has a slightly pained look to it which doesn't say Zen to me. Of course everthing else ab out the image is excellent.

I think this is an excellent shot, but it doesn't really evoke zen for me. The expression on the person's face tends to convey worry or anxiety more than serenity to me - so even though the shot is "zen" in the minimalist sense, it is not zen in terms of expressing or representing calm and serene peace of mind.

Thanks everyone. Funny how expressions are read so differently. This woman was listening to taiko drums at this year's San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. She was enjoying the rhythmic and primal beat of the drumming and I watched as she closed her eyes to completely take in the sounds.

So CraigMartin and mtmartini, perhaps I was influenced by knowing that she was enjoying the ceremonial drumming which tainted my impression of her expression. Thanks for the articulate feedback, it's always welcomed!

he has a look of distress on his face, and it does not say zen to me. however it's a wonderful composition.

Low mark for relevance as I don't see the expression as being zen at all but everything else is wonderful.

Thanks everyone and yes, it's fortunate we don't all rate in a similar fashion. I was surprised when Tracy told me this morning that the image was featured.

Based on the comments regarding relevance I didn't expect a feature for this image. Nonetheless, it is one of my personal favorites not only for the image itself, but the story surrounding it. Thanks again.
